About Turchan & Turchan Company History

In 1933, Manuel Turchan founded Turchan Follower Machine Company. Mr. Turchan invented the Hydraulic Duplicator (Tracer) which provided conventional machines tools with the capability to automatically produce free formed sculptured surfaces, such as propeller blades, automotive body dies, bottle molds and various production pieces from a model or template. His original patented tracers revolutionized the machine tool industry and represented the state of the art until the advent of numerical control.

In addition to retrofitting practically every type of metalworking machine tool, Turchan built complete servo controlled turning and milling systems. Early developers of numerical control chose Turchan servo controlled machines to use in the development of their advanced prototype systems. Consequently, Turchan has been building numerically controlled machine tools since the inception of CNC.

This extensive background was a natural precedent to the development of special computer controlled manufacturing systems. This has led to the development of new manufacturing processes including laser cutting, welding, heat treating and ultra high speed machining.

Parallel developments include systems utilizing air bearing ways and spindles, magnetic bearing spindles, 2000 IPM machining rates, gauging high speed carbide and diamond tooling, concrete machine bed fabrications, scanning and digitizing systems, coordinate measuring machine capabilities, and low inertia high speed servo systems.

Turchan Technologies Group’s talented and innovative staff is a highly motivated and capable group dedicated to creative engineering excellence for optimum productivity.

Turchan now uses this extensive innovative background of completely dry high speed machining and the invention/development of the Thriller® Tool to focus on high volume production machining services for the automotive industry.

Turchan’s capabilities also include elaborate laser processing facilities for automated welding, cladding and multiplexed laser surface enhancement with thin film coatings of diamond and various composites for wear resistance.
Turchan provides a panoply, a complete and excessive array of technical services to its customers while continuing to develop new processes to optimize automated fabrication, machining, assembly and test for high volume component manufacturing.
