The Thriller® Tool is a new concept that not only improves thread quality of a blind or through hole, but substantially increases the productivity of machining centers. A Thriller® Tool can drill, chamfer, and thread a blind or through hole from the solid in one operation, saving you two tool changes, and at least two positions on your tool changer. Consequently, this gives you complete program control over the threading operation.

A Thriller® Tool is a solid-carbide drill with an integral chamfer feature and a thread-mill of slightly smaller diameter on the shank above the drill point. The drill produces the hole and the chamfer, and then the tool is retracted one thread pitch and fed radially into the wall, while simple helical interpolation produces the thread form. When the threads are finished, the tool is centered in the hole and withdrawn.

It takes longer to describe the process than it does to produce a threaded hole with a Thriller® Tool. Thriller® Tools work in aluminum, cast iron, and a broad range of materials that produce easily broken chips, including aerospace composites and titanium. Thriller® Tools work on any modern machining center or flexible manufacturing system with helical interpolation capabilities.
